matariki art with rei hendry

Painting with Rei Hendry

Today we were very lucky, we had the amazing Rei Hendry in our school.

MATARIKI ART
Here is a link that you can follow to hear a retelling of the Seven Stars of Matariki.

Once we were organised and Rei had talked to us about techinque.
 we were ready to start.
First we folded our paper into 3 parts

Next we painted a block letter M in the middle coloumn.

Then we tracked a night star across the sky in the top column.

After that we had to draw 2 or 3 lines in the third column to represent land and sea.

We then used blue paint for the sky and the sea, that balances out the picture by having blue at the top and the bottom. Then we had to paint the hills green (the pictures are really beginning to take shape now)
After that we had to blend red and yellow to make a sunrise pattern in the middle column.
Lastly we will have to paint 7 stars to represent the 7 stars of Matariki.
