Gifted and Talented Education

G.A.T.E. With Mrs Devine

ECOLOGY

A small group of year three and four students from rooms 7, 8, 9, 10 & 11 have been selected for G.A.T.E. (Gifted And Talented Education) with Mrs Devine. We are doing ecology, it is about nature and things that lived and lives.

The first thing we did was building our own terraquas. Terraquas are miniature gardens that you can make out of:

· 1.5 litre bottle

· Permanent marker

· Scissors

· Screw driver

· Plants

· Soil or potting mix

· Water

· Wick, thick string or rope

· Stones or pebbles (optional )

The week after that we adjusted them slightly, because our previous ones had been killed by the intense heat. We had to put in new plants, change the water and put them outside. They worked a lot better in their new ``habitat’’.

We put our terraquas by the trees by the parking lot. We had to make nest by putting shells or bark bunched by the bottom. We had to bring them inside and outside two times basically every day and Mrs Devine will take them home in the weekends.

Two weeks ago we planted some radish seeds in two trays .the first tray had tap water in it and the 2nd had soda water in it. That was the last exciting thing we did so far but next week we are going to do an all-day science day.

Watch this space for more scientific discoveries!!
